Hotels apply for Asean contest

Thirty-five hotels across Cambodia have applied for certification from the Asean Green Hotel Standard to join the Asean Green Hotel Award ceremony for 2020-2022.

The event is scheduled to be announced during the Asean Tourism Forum 2020 in Brunei, said the Ministry of Tourism.

Kim Serey Rath, the director of the ministry’s Tourist Accommodation Services and Food Management Department, told The Post on Wednesday that the 35 hotel owners came from Siem Reap and Kampot provinces, as well as Phnom Penh.

The ministry will accept applications until Friday. After that, ministry officials will inspect the hotels of all applicants between July 15 and August 28.

The Asean Green Hotel Award event takes place every two years.

Serey Rath said the Kingdom plans to be represented by between seven and 10 hotels at the contest.

“If Cambodian hotels receive the Asean Green Hotel Award, it will make more tourists aware about Cambodia,” Serey Rath said.

To join the competition, hotels need to follow 11 criteria, including safe location, good service, staff benefits, social responsibility, domestic product use and environmental conscience (saving water and electricity, as well as having a proper waste management system).
