Learning in Kampot schools goes digital with Metfone-developed SIS Cambodia

SIS Cambodia – a digital education platform developed by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in partnership with Metfone – has been introduced in schools in Kampot province to help them move into the digital space.

The platform was launched at a recent workshop organised by the SIS Cambodia team in Kampot to encourage better education in high schools across the province using the SIS digital education system.

Participants at the workshop in Kampot – comprising teachers, students and the education sector stakeholders – were exposed to the successful experiences of other schools from across the Kingdom in leveraging the SIS Cambodia digital system to improve teaching and learning.

Schools will, among others, enjoy five main benefits using the SIS Cambodia system:

Encourages critical thinking

SIS significantly increases learning efficiency and productivity. In addition to engaging students, digital learning tools and technologies help train critical thinking skills, which are the basis for the development of analytical reasoning.

This will helps develop patience, another useful life skill.

Children also develop a positive sense of accomplishment from mastering new knowledge and skills using digital learning tools, giving them the confidence to want to learn more.

Aids responsible learning

Digital tools and technologies are more interactive and memorable for students than massive textbooks or one-way lectures, and they provide better context, a greater sense of perspective and more engaging activities.

In addition, when students can track their own progress, they can improve themselves, learn independently, increase learning motivation and take more responsibility.

Enhances parents’ interest

The opportunity to customise the learning sequence for each student will make education more effective by closing learning gaps earlier and accelerating progress.

These help teachers’ efficiency and students to learn better through engagement and enjoyment.

Parents can also explore online learning activities with their children, which can act as an extension to what they are learning in the classroom.

Digital learning tools and technologies are fun for children and have many developmental and health benefits.

These tools and technologies increase in information sharing at a faster pace.

In recent years, the shift from print to digital has impacted the way we learn.

Just like with the invention of the printing press six centuries ago, this transition is transforming formal education and increasing learning opportunities.

Digital learning not only allows students to access more and more information, but also ensures that the information in question is tailored to their individual needs.

By using digital devices and connected learning, classrooms across the country and around the globe can not only work together to share insights, but also enhance learning skills.

Schools can also save money while having more equal access to educational materials as expensive private schools.

Modernising education

Equipping students with the requirements for successful careers is one of the most important responsibilities of a school education.

With Industry 4.0 changing the employment landscape and increasingly providing stable jobs in technology-related industries, newer methods of learning and education need to be incorporated into the school curriculum, starting at the elementary level.
