Ministry announces yearly ICT prize of $27K

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications announced the opening of the fourth annual ICT Awards on Wednesday, calling for organisations to pitch products and vie for prizes worth $27,000.

The awards are organised by the ministry to attract applications from private companies, startups, NGOs or public service institutions. To qualify, participants would pitch an already-existing product that would then be judged on its creativity, benefit to society, quality and reliability, and the technology involved.

“Innovation can come from very different places,” said Sopheap Seng, the official in charge or organising the event. “This is why we have created different categories allowing young startups, private companies, and also public initiatives and NGOs to showcase their creativity.”

Candidates can apply in six different categories: startup, digital content, private sector, corporate social responsibility, public sector, and research and development. The deadline for applications is May 15.

One winner will be selected from each category, and a final ceremony will be held on June 15th, during which three of the six category winners will be eligible to win grand prizes of $10,000, $3,000 and $2,000.
