Singapore asked to facilitate imports of Cambodian agricultural products

Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak has requested newly appointed Singapore ambassador to Cambodia Teo Lay Cheng to facilitate the imports of agricultural products from the Kingdom.

The request was made during a meeting between Sorasak and Teo on promoting trade between the two ASEAN member states at the ministry on May 20.

Sorasak said Cambodia has abundant agricultural products including mango, banana, Pailin longan, Kampot pepper, turmeric, coconut, dragon fruit and rice, which have been exported into the region and the world.

"We requested coordination with Singapore companies in importing agricultural products from Cambodia and in business matching to promote trade in the ASEAN region," he said

The minister noted that Cambodia had made great efforts to improve business environment and attract more investors, especially through its enforcement of the intellectual property law and the protection of trademarks and brands.

Despite the Covid-19 crisis, bilateral trade between Cambodia and Singapore reached more than $308 million in 2020, with the former exporting $87 million worth of merchandise to the city-state.
