Hun Manet, in his capacity as a member of the Standing Committee of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), encouraged members of the CPP youth wing’s working group for East and Southeast Asia to work hard to serve the people and contribute to building the nation in order to ensure continued victory in elections.
During a meeting with the working group in Phnom Penh on September 10, Manet said the reason to join the CPP was to work for the party in order to repay it for saving lives and giving them the opportunity to live in peace.
"In this sense, in order to continue to ensure a win-win in democratic competition by gaining the trust and hearts of the people, all party members need to continue to do good deeds to serve the people and contribute to building society as much as possible.
"In particular, it is necessary to understand and evaluate our shortcomings and gaps and strive to improve in those areas as well as maintain and reinforce existing strengths," he said.
This was the first meeting between party leadership and all working group members after it was revamped in February and put on pause until the Covid-19 situation improved.
The working group is one part of the CPP's membership tasked with mobilising support for the CPP in Cambodian communities and workers in South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand.
Manet praised the working group for following the guidelines and plans of the party’s youth wing by actively working on promoting the expansion of the party’s structure and retaining party members to achieve results they could take pride in.
"Indeed, this success is the fruitful result of concerted efforts and the setting of clear directions and indicators, as well as the proper structure and human resources, especially continuing to do good deeds and connecting with honest people," he said.
Heng Sour, secretary of state and spokesman for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, said Manet's remarks were drawn from his own work experience, successes in leadership and experience managing units or projects.
Sour urged the working group to maintain internal unity and understanding and cooperate with all relevant actors to serve and support the people, workers and trainees more effectively.
"Good deeds will gain us support from the community. Please continue to do them. What we still lack or what our community has suggested is that we must try to listen carefully, find out the various sources of information about a problem and study them immediately to find an appropriate solution or to offer an immediate explanation to the person making the request or raising the issue," he said in a social media post.
