National Assembly president Heng Samrin, in his capacity as honorary president of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), urged party leaders across the country to work together and do their best to win this July’s national election and establish a platform for the CPP to lead the Kingdom for the next five years.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the CPP Extraordinary General Assembly on January 28, Samrin said that 2023 marks an end to the 2018-2023 mandate of the National Assembly and the government. It will also be the beginning of a new five-year mandate.
“We have a lot of work to do in the future and so must join hands and do our utmost to win the 7th-mandate parliamentary election,” he added.
He said the CPP has made continuous efforts to follow the direction of work set out at the 43rd Central Committee Meeting in December 2021 and last July’s Extraordinary Central Committee Meeting.
“We must accelerate our work, as the end of this mandate is approaching,” he added.
“We must work together to build a new party platform to support the next five years of our leadership. First, we need to promote our policies among the electorate. That way, they will have a clear understanding of our goals, and will support us with their votes,” he continued.
To this end, the party has strengthened and developed its human resources and streamlined its organisational structures at all levels, he noted.
“All of this demonstrates that the CPP is the leading party in Cambodia’s multi-party liberal democracy. We laid the foundation for the peace that the present-day Kingdom enjoys, and paved the way for its long-term development,” he concluded.
