The Indonesian embassy in Phnom Penh on August 17 commemorated the 78th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence, with its charge d'affaires Lauti Nia Astri calling on all compatriots to “continue the enthusiasm for the 2045 Golden Vision of Indonesia”.
Over 150 Indonesians residing in Phnom Penh and beyond joined the celebrations at the embassy on August 17. The event saw a significant number of participants don national garments, showcasing kebaya and batik costumes from various parts of Indonesia.
The 78th Independence Day stands as a testament to the unity and diversity of the Indonesian people, said Astri, who presided as host. She expressed her gratitude to the attendees, highlighting the proactive involvement of the Indonesian community in Cambodia.
The charge d'affaires praised the efforts of the Indonesian working community and entrepreneurs in Cambodia, saying their active participation in various events and their support in organising the Indonesian teams for the 2023 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games as well as the ITTP 2023 were especially noteworthy.
She applauded the myriad sports and entertainment events, as well as social services, that had been conducted successfully in the months leading up to the 78th Independence Day celebrations.
Astri encouraged all members of the community to maintain their fervour towards the vision of the 2045 Golden Vision of Indonesia.
The development strategy, she mentioned, ensures that the long-term national development plan is purposeful and quantifiable. This is essential for the future prosperity of the ASEAN’s largest economy and aligns with the theme of the 78th Independence Day: Keep On for Advanced Indonesia.
"I call on the entire Indonesian community in Cambodia to unite and ensure the successful conduct of the 2024 general elections – both the presidential/vice-presidential election and the parliamentary election – by upholding the principles of transparency, universality, confidentiality, honesty, and fairness," Astri underscored in her closing remarks.
