150 girls get bikes for school

Women’s rights organization Healthcare Center for Children provided 150 school girls at risk of being trafficked and exploited with scholarships to stay in school. In a project funded by the European Union aimed at preventing trafficking, labor exploitation and sexual abuse, 75 girls in Kampot province and 75 girls in Prey Veng province each received a bicycle and school materials including a backpack, uniform, shoes, books, pens and pencils. HCC executive director Sotheary Ly said families “struggling to make ends meet or feed themselves are often forced to make unimaginable decisions and most often their daughters’ education is the first to be sacrificed.”
