Alleged drug dealers sent to court in capital

The Phnom Penh municipal police sent a man and a woman to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Thursday accused of dealing in drugs after a crackdown on Night Club Fly, in Village III, Chroy Changvar commune, Chroy Changvar district, in the capital.

Sixty-eight others were also netted in the crackdown on February 9.

Phnom Penh police minor crimes bureau chief Bun Satya said on Thursday that police questioned the detainees and had their urine tested.

As a result, 40 of them had traces of drugs in their urine and would be sent to the drug rehabilitation centre after legal procedures are completed. The remaining 28 were free of drugs.

Satya said the two who were sent to court were the alleged drug trafficker aged 22, who lives in Prek Luang commune, Khsach Kandal district, Kandal province and a 37-year-old woman chief-of-staff at the club.

“The two were sent to court on Thursday morning for further legal action as they were involved in drug dealing,” he said.

The crackdown was led by Phnom Penh municipal police chief and deputy national police chief, Sar Thet, in cooperation from court officials, Phnom Penh police minor crimes officers and the Chroy Changvar police intervention force.

During the crackdown, police also seized 101 packets of a white powder believed to be ketamine, 60 drug tablets, a drug scale and related items. Police also impounded 37 motorbikes and seven cars.
