ANA plans Angkor events to celebrate 30 years of UNESCO recognition

The Apsara National Authority (ANA) will hold a three-day remembrance event at the Angkor Archaeological Park from December 14-16 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Angkor Wat inscription on UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992.

In a December 2 notice, the ANA said that during the opening ceremony of the event, people can join in offering alms to 130 monks in front of Angkor Wat.

The event will feature art performances by troupes from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts. The performances will be held behind Angkor Wat and are open to all.

Traditional Ayai songs will be performed on the Terrace of the Elephants at Angkor Thom and Khmer shadow theatre will be performed by a troupe from the ministry.

Ayai, a mocking dialogue between a man and a woman, is a traditional Khmer musical form.

“In order to commemorate this important event, we will also give free tours of several sites and museums to tourists and members of the public so that they can learn more about the conservation work that goes on within the Angkor Archaeological Park,” added the notice.
