ASEAN human rights meeting underway July 30

The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Cambodia will host the first Special Meeting 2022 of the AICHR from July 30 to August 2 in Phnom Penh, according to an AICHR press release.

The meeting will be chaired by president of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee Keo Remy, who is also the head of AICHR 2022, with the participation of representatives of all ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat.

The press release said that the AICHR delegates and the ASEAN Secretariat team had arrived in Phnom Penh on July 28 to attend the meeting. They will examine, discuss and pass AICHR annual reports, documents of priority programmes of AICHR 2022 and 2023 and documents of activities. They will also approve activity reports and check on the progress of as-yet unimplemented programmes and other important documents.

Keo Remy will lead an AICHR delegation to meet separately with ASEAN secretary-general Lim Jock Hoi on August 2. Later the same day, Remy will lead the delegation and the ASEAN Secretariat team to attend an annual meeting between the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission and the ASEAN Foreign Ministers.
