Banteay Meanchey provincial authorities, military forces help farmers harvest rice after flooding

Banteay Meanchey provincial governor Um Reatrey led members of the armed forces and local authorities to help harvest rice on August 17 that was flooded by heavy rainfall in Phniet and Koh Pongsat communes of Sisophon town, where some farmers had already been harvesting their rice and some had yet to begin when the storm arrived.

The Banteay Meanchey provincial administration said in a social media post on August 18 that members of the armed force and local authorities were brought in to help harvest rice after three days of rain had flooded rice fields in certain communes of Sisophon town.

The Facebook post announced that the government had commended the efforts by the provincial commanders of the military sub-region, the provincial police chief and the provincial commander of military police and district police chiefs and border guard battalions for easing the difficulties of local farmers, in addition to the core work of their units in defence of the nation.

“We have already prepared forces, materials and means to rescue people affected by natural disaster in towns and districts throughout the province,” the Facebook post announced.

The Facebook post added that a 45-year-old man named Pa Sarom who owned a one-hectare rice field in Neak Ta village in the town’s Phniet commune thanked the provincial governor for assisting them because he would have lost his rice crop if it had not been harvested.
