Battambang provincial authorities on April 22 temporarily opened 11 markets that had previously been ordered shut from April 21-29. Authorities also announced that individuals entering the province are required to test for Covid-19 or quarantine.
According to a notice signed by provincial governor Nguon Ratanak on April 27, eight of the markets are in Battambang town – Central (Phsar Nat); Boeung Chhoeuk; January 13; Apsara (Phsar Leu); Rong Lkhon; Wat Leap; Povong; and Phuopuoy Supermarket.
The other three – Thma Koul Thmei and Khum Chrey markets in Thma Koul district and Moung Russey market in Moung Russey district – would also reopen.
“During the temporary reopening of the markets, Battambang provincial town, Thma Koul and Moung Russey district administrations and the Market Board of Management have to maintain safety requirements to contain Covid-19. They also have to fine anyone who breaks the measures,” the notice said.
Battambang administration also requested that for 14 days from April 29 to May 13 that long-stay travellers test for Covid and quarantine.
“Travellers who have mission letters from public institutions or short-stay travellers [less than a week] must be tested for Covid-19,” the notice said.
The provincial administration also banned people from selling or consuming alcoholic drinks, playing games and sports.
But it allowed some businesses to resume such as food establishments and coffee and drink shops, accommodation, tourist destinations and religious services.
The administration reminded everyone to strictly implement health and safety standards.
