Roughly 30 pigs died from constipation caused by swinepox in Kampong Cham's Batheay district last week, farmers and provincial officials said Monday. Penh Sambo, a farmer in the district's Sandek commune, said his family had lost a major source of income after three of their five pigs died. "I bought a tablet from the pharmacy to treat them, but they could not survive," he said. Sa Rom, a veterinarian in the district, said the swinepox mini-outbreak was "not dire". Heng Bin Yi, director of the provincial agriculture department, said that he planned to send veterinarians out to administer vaccines to pigs today.
