The Cambodia-Laos border security cooperation committee held a video conference last week on security cooperation and crime suppression along the border. The conference was hosted by the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF).
RCAF deputy commander Ith Sarath said on Sunday he led the Cambodian delegation while the Lao side was led by the Lao People’s Army deputy chief of staff Chanthong Soneta-ath.
Sarath said the meeting was very important for the two parties to continue to discuss ways to strengthen and expand cooperation and maintain security and order along the border between the two countries for better stability and security. This includes tackling cross-border crimes.
“We are neighbours, so we have to have good relations with each other. This meeting is our annual meeting to allow both parties to get to know each other. We mainly discuss crime prevention along the Cambodia-Laos border.
“If there’s any suspected crime, the Laos side will report it to Cambodia, and Cambodia will also report to Laos. Both parties are quick to act,” he said.
Sarath said Chanthong agreed with the content of the meeting. Cambodia believes both sides will implement the recommendations of the two countries’ leaders.
Chanthong requested in the meeting the Cambodian side continue to meet and discuss at the set time every year and to jointly resolve all issues that may eventually arise.
