Cambodia, Australia pledge continued cooperation

Prime Minister Hun Manet and Australian foreign minister Penny Wong engaged in discussions aimed at fortifying bilateral relations and resolving differing viewpoints.

The talks took place on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly (UNGA 78) in the US’ New York City on September 22.

Manet communicated Cambodia's dedication to improving the human rights situation and reinforcing democratic principles, according to his social media post after the meeting.

He informed Wong of ongoing administrative and judicial reforms, the authorisation for thousands of NGOs to operate and the extension of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) field office, among other initiatives.

In response, Wong conveyed her government's intention to continue collaborating with the Kingdom to fulfill mutual goals.

“She [Wong] also emphasised Australia’s commitment to overcoming obstacles and differences between the two nations, and to supporting one another in all aspects with high responsibility,” the post said.

Manet and Wong also explored other potential areas of cooperation, including education, scholarships, trade and additional initiatives.
