Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn encouraged the Cambodian-Lao Joint Border Committee (JBC) to accelerate their discussion to solve the remaining 14 per cent of the undemarcated borders based on the agreement made in November last year between the two countries.
Sokhonn also encouraged the JBC to discuss a draft border treaty for the borderline that has already been agreed.
The foreign minister made the remarks during a meeting with newly appointed Lao ambassador to Cambodia Buakeo Phumvongsay on April 22 in Phnom Penh.
According to the foreign ministry's press statement, Sokhonn also encouraged more comprehensive cooperation in all sectors including trade, investment, education, tourism, and connection of the peoples of the two countries.
“[Sokhonn] and the ambassador also discussed preparation for a meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) scheduled to be hosted by Cambodia in Phnom Penh in July," it said.
Ambassador Buakeo also conveyed a message of gratitude from the government and people of Laos for Cambodia's donation of 700,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses along with refrigerated trucks and other medical supplies, and financial aid to help Laos in its fight against Covid-19.
He also placed a high value on Cambodia’s efforts as the ASEAN chair in seeking a solution to the ongoing Myanmar crisis.
Sokhonn and Buakeo also discussed other regional and international issues of common concern and cooperation within both ASEAN and international frameworks.
