Cambodian, Thai ministers to visit border bridge

Both Cambodian and Thai public works ministers will on August 20 jointly inspect the construction site of the Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian International Border Checkpoint, which is over 50 per cent complete.

The Cambodian ministry said the visit was agreed after Thailand considered Cambodia’s request to soft-launch the Cambodia-Thailand Friendship Bridge and the checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province, to ease traffic congestion on the border as well as at the Poipet-Aranyaprathet border checkpoint.

Koy Sodany, secretary of state at Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport said the construction of Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian and the road connecting National Road 5 are about 54 per cent complete.

As for the progress and completion of the road construction, parking lot and container office, work is ongoing.

In order for the visit to commence smoothly, Sodany said, a pre-inspection visit to clean and organise the reception area of the delegation, traffic flow and the procession of the delegation passing through Thai territory via the Poipet-Aranyaprathet checkpoint must be done.

“Some important documents and designs would be distributed to the delegation during the visit,” she said.
