Capital tackles Covid infections at construction sites

Phnom Penh municipal governor Khuong Sreng has ordered enforcement of Covid-19 measures at all construction sites in the capital as many cases have been detected among staff and workers in the sector.

In a notice on July 23, Sreng said the high rate of infections was a cause for concern.

Construction site owners and managers, he said, must strictly adhere to preventive measures by regularly updating the names, address and contact details of their workers and entire staff.

“Send the information to the municipal Department of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction as well as the district administration to make it easy for the authorities to track those who have been in direct and indirect contact with Covid-19 positive persons.

“Assign someone to provide face masks to them, measure their temperatures, set up handwashing facilities and “Stop Covid” QR Code at the entrance-exit,” Sreng said.

The municipality encouraged construction site owners and managers to prepare accommodation for workers if possible as this would enable better control and monitoring of their health.

Workers are advised against staying together with family members or peers in the same construction site.

The governor also bans the sale of food and drinks in and around the site where hygiene cannot be ensured and instructed construction site managers to organise it.

Construction site owners and managers also have to prepare places for antigen rapid tests, quarantine, and treatment of mild Covid-19 cases detected in workers there.
