Drone sent up in search for suspects in capital killing

Police yesterday deployed a camera-equipped drone to inspect a forest where two suspected thieves fled after allegedly killing a military police officer in Por Sen Chey district on Sunday, but were unable to find the suspects.

“The police used a drone and went directly to the forest. The drone was deployed and hovered above the entire forest,” said Choam Chao commune deputy police chief Nho Serey.

“The suspects may have run out [of the forest] after shooting the man before the police arrived, because the police surrounded the forest the whole night from Sunday afternoon to this afternoon but did not come across any suspect.”

According to Serey, the two suspects robbed a Chinese national of $500 and a necklace and then ran through the property of an abandoned house, shooting dead 23-year-old military police officer Yen Rynong – who also worked as a security guard for the house – before fleeing into the forest.

“In the [security] camera [footage], we saw a picture, but the suspects were wearing raincoats, so we can’t see their faces clearly,” he said. “We will continue to look for them.”
