More than 40 workers fainted yesterday at a garment factory in Phnom Penh that supplies to Adidas – the third such incident at the factory this week, Sros Vuthy, a local union leader said.
The faintings come on the heels of more than 100 workers fainting on Monday, followed by another five workers on Tuesday at the New Orient factory, located inside the Canadia Industrial Park.
Im Raksa, who didn’t faint but was also being treated at the clinic yesterday because she felt weak, said she had been working overtime.
“When I feel unwell and I go to the toilet often, I get blamed by my supervisor,” she said.
A doctor at Moul Mith clinic, who declined to give his name, said the workers had low calcium and low blood sugar levels.
A company representative claimed officials from the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Labour had gone to the factory to investigate the incidents, and found nothing wrong.
Officials at both ministries couldn’t be reached for comment.
