Heavy rains headed for provinces with Sept 20-23 flash flood alert

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced that heavy rains will affect Phnom Penh and several provinces, which could result in flash flooding from September 20 to 23.

The ministry asked all residents to be vigilant to avoid accidents.

“Lowland areas will experience some cloudy and foggy weather with moderate to heavy rain which could cause flash floods in Phnom Penh, and the provinces of Kandal, Kampong Speu, Pursat, Battambang, Pailin and Banteay Meanchey,” it said in a notice on September 18.

The ministry said the Dangrek and Cardamon mountains will be cloudy, with scattered moderate to heavy rains in Pursat, Veal Veng, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear and Kamphong Thom provinces. The Stung Sen River could also flood.

In coastal areas, it will be cloudy with fog and moderate to heavy rains accompanied by winds of moderate strength. The conditions will cause flash floods in Koh Kong province with National Road 4 particularly threatened by floods. On the sea, there will be rain, wind and waves of medium height.
