The Indian government is offering scholarships to Cambodian students to pursue six undergraduate degrees in ancient healing courses – ayurveda, yoga, unani, siddha and homeopathy (AYUSH) in India, its embassy in Phnom Penh said in a statement on Wednesday.
The deadline for the scholarship application is July 31, said the embassy, adding that the courses for the 2020-2021 academic year are offered through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
“The acceptance of the courses at international level has resulted in growing demand from students to study at Indian institutions.
“The Ministry of AYUSH under its international fellowship programme extends financial support to eligible foreign nationals for the course in premier institutes in India,” it said.
The five-and-a-half-year degree courses which include a one-year mandatory clinical training (internship) consist of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery, and Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery.
Applicants should be 18 years and above at the time of admission in Indian universities, be fluent in English and must have completed 12 years of schooling with physics, chemistry and biology.
As for the three-year Bachelor of Science in Yoga or Bachelor of Arts in Yoga Shastra, prospective candidates must have completed 12 years of schooling and must be proficient in English as well.
The Indian government will cover tuition fees and other compulsory fees, return airfare, monthly living allowances of 8,000 rupees ($110), an annual contingent grant of 4,500 rupees, and monthly rental allowance of up to 3,500 rupees.
