Jab campaign creeps toward 10 million goal

The Kingdom’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage is edging ever closer to 100 per cent of the target 10 million adult population, fuelling the Ministry of Health’s hopes of reaching the corresponding targets for other age groups soon.

According to the national Covid-19 vaccination committee report, 9,978,324 adults, or 99.76 per cent of that population, had been vaccinated as of October 24.

The country had also vaccinated 1,783,697 children and adolescents aged 12-17, or 90.68 per cent of that age group of nearly two million, and 100.33 per cent of the 6-11 age group of nearly 1.9 million.

Health ministry spokeswoman Or Vandine, who is also head of the committee, said last week that vaccination figures were generally based on estimates when the committee used the figures of the general census in 2019.

“When we take these figures as our goal, we do not think of people who have moved to work abroad. So it makes 10 million people our target and we have already vaccinated more than 99 per cent of the population,” she said.

Separately, in the last two weeks, vaccination teams from the Ministry of National Defence have administered nearly 500,000 booster shots in seven districts in Phnom Penh.

The teams began the booster campaign on October 11 in Meanchey, Dangkor, Kamboul, Por Sen Chey, Russey Keo, Tuol Kork and Sen Sok districts. They have also administered booster shots to garment workers from 39 factories.
