Jabs advised for all expecting and breastfeeding mothers

The Ministry of Health announced that those who received their Covid-19 shots from the Ministry of National Defence can now obtain their fourth dose at any available vaccination centre. Previously, vaccine cards issued by the military were not valid at every centre.

“Now there is no problem receiving your fourth jab, because we have coordinated with the military and integrated our systems. Provided that four months have passed since your last shot, there is no challenge anymore for those with military vaccination cards. Just take the card to the nearest vaccination centre,” said health ministry spokeswoman Or Vandine.

As of January 25, more than 370,000 people had received the fourth dose in an ongoing campaign that began on January 14.

Vandine reminded and urged pregnant woman and breastfeeding mothers to get vaccinated at any available place, regardless of whether it was their first or fourth.

“If it has been four months since your last shot, please visit the nearest centre,” she said.

Similar advice was given by UNICEF Cambodia.

“For pregnant women, getting infected with the Covid-19 virus could cause severe health consequences including premature birth, or even death. One of the best ways to safeguard your health and your baby’s is getting Covid-19 vaccines. Don’t wait,” it said in a Facebook post on January 25.

WHO representative to Cambodia Li Ailan echoed the call, saying that remaining unvaccinated posed a high risk for them.

“Pregnant women, people with co-morbidities or members of any other vulnerable group, please consult with health and medical workers and get vaccinated,” she said.

Separately, the shipment of some 300,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses donated by the Polish government through a bilateral agreement has been postponed for a second time due to weather conditions.
