Kampong Speu 2022 flood report issued

Flooding in the past year affected 1,459 families in 86 villages of Kampong Speu province, according to an annual meeting report from the provincial branch of the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM).

The report was presented to NCDM vice-president Chan Lumphat as he chaired a meeting to review the provincial committee's work results in 2022 and direction for 2023.

Lumphat urged disaster management teams to remain on alert.

He suggested that provincial authorities compile detailed reports of the impact of flooding and droughts.

The report said that when the flooding hit, 127 families required evacuation. The flooding affected 21,926m of roads, three bridges, 100m of canals, three schools, 13,718ha of dry-season rice and 12 tonnes of rice stored in warehouses.

Members of the armed forces were called in to alleviate the situation.

In addition to the flooding, fires burned five houses, a motorcycle and 11 kitchens in the province last year.

Lumphat reiterated the importance of recording all disaster management work.
