Kampot police seeking driver in fatal hit-and-run

Police in Kampot are calling for the driver responsible for a hit-and-run accident on Sunday that killed three – including an infant – to come forward and take responsibility.

Seng Ratana, deputy police chief in charge of traffic in Kampot’s Kampong Trach district, identified the victims as cousins Plet Keo, 34, and Min Chuory, 23, and Chuory’s 6-month-old son, Ploan Sarin – all residents of Banteay Meas district, who were sharing a motorbike at the time of the crash.

After the accident, the victim’s bodies were collected by relatives and taken home for funeral preparations.

While the driver escaped the scene, police identified the owner of the car as Sok Chenda, a resident of Phnom Penh’s Stung Meanchey commune. The car and motorbike were impounded at Kampong Trach district police station.

“At the moment, we want the car owner to take the responsibility under the laws,” Ratana said.
