Police arrested five men in Kandal’s Sa’ang district on Monday evening after their alleged gang-rape of a garment worker, the second such attack in the Kingdom in the past week.
Provincial police chief Eav Chamroeun said the brutal attack left the woman unconscious. “We are now interrogating [the suspects],” he said.
Sa’ang district police chief Seng Socheat, however, told the Post that all five, farmers living in Roka Leu village, had already confessed.
According to police, the victim’s boyfriend, Reth Ratha, also known as Mok, 20, phoned her on Monday to suggest a tryst. The victim, 22, came to meet him, only to find another man, 17, waiting there, too.
Ratha said they then took her via motorbike to a mango plantation, with three others – Sopheap Chhlonh, 18, and two underage suspects – following on a motorbike.
“Only [Ratha and the 17-year-old] raped her. A third guy attempted to rape her, but she fell unconscious,” police said.
Police arrested all five as they were heading to her home.
Socheat said Ratha set up the gang rape because he believed she was seeing other men.
