The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Hall has deployed 200 large buoys along the coast of Ochheuteal beach for the safety of local and international tourists visiting the province.
Provincial Hall spokesman Kheang Phearum said on Monday that to ensure the safety of local and international tourists who visit and swim at the beaches, the provincial authority deployed buoys to mark safe boundaries in the ocean.
“Now the technical team is tying the buoys to set a safe boundary for swimmers and personal watercraft riders along Ochheuteal I beach. The work begun last week,” he said.
Also, the provincial authority is constructing sidewalks, parking lots, and toilets while running electricity to the beaches. The Provincial Hall will also deploy 15 lifeguards for rescuing swimmers.
Provincial tourism department director Taing Sochet Kresna, who is in charge of developing the beach, said the 200 large buoys and some safety flags were installed along Ochheuteal I beach by Monday evening at a cost of $43,000.
“We plan to complete the work of placing the large buoys and flags along Ochheuteal II before Khmer New Year in April,” he said.
The authority, he said, will also install the large buoys along Otres I beach later this year if they get some donations from development partners.
He also said the large buoys were placed 50m into the sea for swimmers and red flags for personal watercraft riders 150m away.
To attract tourists, the beaches are being developed with safe standards and food stalls with reasonable prices, he noted.
