Late prahok season on the horizon

With catches of prahok fish set to ramp up in the coming week as the late season opens, the Fisheries Administration (FiA) has reiterated a call to producers of the unique fermented paste and jerky to buy up wares from local fishermen.

The FiA said in a notice on January 6 that monitoring of Tonle Sap River water levels and flows indicated that certain stretches in the capital and surrounding Kandal province could become desirable fishing spots from January 9-14, barring adverse weather conditions.

The administration, a unit under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, also called on local authorities to lend a hand to all involved in the trade, and provide support for travel, lodging and the transport of fish, but ensure compliance with Covid-related health measures.

The late prahok producing season comes four weeks after the early season, which fell on December 12-16.
