Tycoon Try Pheap was whisked away from a ceremony held to bless his most recent marriage, reportedly to a member of Cambodian People’s Party Senator Lao Meng Khin’s family, in a brand new Rolls-Royce this week.
The logging baron married Kien Srey Neang, 21, according to a source with knowledge of the ceremony, which was held at Pheap’s lavish mansion in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district and attended by senior forestry and environment officials.
One attendee, who requested anonymity, said Minister of Environment Say Sam Al and former Forestry Administration director Ty Sokhun were honoured guests of the tycoon.
His companies, predominantly involved in logging, have repeatedly come under fire for allegedly stripping Cambodia of its remaining stocks of luxury hardwood trees.
The source said that Pheap had waited to hold a public ceremony after living with Srey Neang and her 4-year-old child for some time following a divorce with his first wife, Mao Mom.
“There were no problems with his ex-wife, because he divorced her a long time ago, so now his new marriage can be officially declared,” the attendee said.
