Ministry of Water disavows fake pages

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology yesterday warned the public not to trust information provided by “fake” Facebook pages purporting to represent the ministry.

A statement on the ministry’s Facebook page said people might confuse the fake pages with the ministry’s official pages because they use the ministry’s logo.

“Lately, the ministry found that there are some Facebook pages which use the ministry’s official logo, which leads to confusion,” the statement reads.

The fake pages feature a hodgepodge of updates, including actual ministry announcements along with other unrelated information such as videos about how to design steel structures.

Facebook messages to the account holder behind one of the unauthorised pages were not returned.

The ministry stated that only the ministry’s page, the Tonle Sap Authority page and the Cambodia National Mekong Committee page were officially sanctioned.

Ministry spokesman Chan Yutha yesterday said the ministry intended to take legal action if the fake pages continued to use its logo.
