‘Mon Srey’ to face court on Tuesday

The purported mistress of CNRP deputy chief Kem Sokha has been summonsed again to appear at the Phnom Penh court on Tuesday over allegations of prostitution and providing false testimony, according to a court document.

Khom Chandaraty, also known by her nickname “Srey Mom” and Facebook moniker “Mon Srey”, had previously asked to delay her appearance in order to arrange a lawyer.

She is now to be represented by Try Chhun, a lawyer from rights group Adhoc, who was yesterday set to meet with his client to discuss the case.

“We are not sure whether or not we will let Srey Mom go to clarify on April 19, or whether we will delay again,” Chhun said.

Chandaraty was thrust into the public spotlight after covertly recorded tapes purportedly featuring her talking intimately with the CNRP acting president were leaked.

The tapes sparked a defamation claim by social media personality Thy Sovantha, who is discussed in the recordings.

Police investigating that case accuse Chandaraty of lying during an interview. She has also been accused of prostitution.

Officials, however, have remained mum as to whether they are investigating the possibility that the recordings were illegally obtained.
