NACD, UNODC discuss safe drug disposal techniques

The National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) recently met with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Over 20 officials from pertinent institutions were in attendance to deliberate on the destruction of drugs, chemicals and waste linked to the 585 tonnes of drugs confiscated by the police.

The NACD highlighted that the gathering was convened to assess the handling, accumulation and safekeeping of illicit chemicals. These substances served as evidence related to drug crimes, along with waste from drug manufacturing. Such police operations have been prominent in the past years.

The NACD mentioned that the meeting sought collaboration with key ministries and institutions. The aim was to secure technical assistance and invite these bodies to participate in the careful collection and destruction of these drugs.

During the discussions, the possibility of offering technical assistance and safe disposal methods was broached, all with the backing of the UNODC.
