National Assembly approves $43M budget

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA) on September 19 approved the NA budget for 2023 of 171 billion riel ($43 million).

This is now to be submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Finance for inclusion in the national budget in accordance with the Law on Public Finance System.

NA spokesman Leng Peng Long told The Post that the budget for 2023 is less than that for 2019 before the outbreak of Covid-19.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, costs were lower, and while we have exited lockdowns and our activities have returned to normal, with in-person meetings rather than video conferencing, for example, the budget is still lower than for 2019,” he said.

He added that the budget would be used to fund various activities as the NA holds its 2023 session and sends delegates to a number of international meetings and forums.
