Navy promotes 7, looks to add new marines

The Kingdom’s navy has promoted three new deputy commanders and four new deputy department chiefs, according to a government announcement released yesterday.

The announcement identifies the new deputy commanders as Hing Puth Dara, Seng Narin and Tea Kimol. The new deputy general department heads are identified as Un Mony, Keo Saron, Koeut Polin and Chhuon You.

According to the announcement, dated yesterday and signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, the promotions are effective “from [the date of] signing”.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence is also recruiting 200 marines, according to marine spokesman Khun Vuthy.

Vuthy said there had been no recruitment last year, “therefore we need to recruit new soldiers to replace the old soldiers who retired”.

A government announcement signed by the premier in May authorises the recruitment and instructs the Council of Ministers, as well as the Ministries of Defence and Finance, to cooperate to implement the decision.
