NEC needs 527 temporary officials ahead of general election

The National Election Committee (NEC) is recruiting 527 new officials on short-term contracts to work in the 25 municipal-provincial election secretariats, verifying the registration of the 2022 voter list. The recruitment process began August 1.

According to the law on the national election law, NEC must update the commune voter list to ensure its complete accuracy and make certain it is up to date. This year, the verification and registration would last for 50-days, from October 20 to December 8. February 1 next year will be the official date for announcing the voter list.

According to a July 26 announcement signed by NEC chairman Prach Chan, the positions include administrative assistants and secretaries, accounting assistants, legal and dispute resolution assistants and drivers. Candidates can collect an application form from the municipal-provincial election secretariats during working hours.

Chea Pum, chairman of the Kampong Thom Provincial Election Commission Secretariat, told The Post on August 1 that the commission would advertise the positions on provincial television and radio from August 1-10.

“The instructions said the application distribution and interviews would begin on August 6. Other conditions will be announced in a further statement. There are 23 positions available in Kampong Thom,” he said.

According to Chea, the recruitments are necessary as none of the secretariats have enough staff to handle the work.
