NEC recruiting 527 contract officials in August to prep for 2023 national election

The National Election Committee (NEC) will recruit 527 short-term contract officials in August to work for the capital and provincial election commissions to prepare for next year’s national election.

The recruitment plan was one of the outcomes of a meeting held on July 21 to review proposals by the NEC Secretariat-General in the run-up to the national election scheduled for July 23, 2023.

The NEC said in a press statement that the approved proposals were the schedule for the meetings with relevant stakeholders in the national election and the schedule for the voter list review and voter registration prior to it.

Also reviewed at the meeting were the reports on the voter list and voter registration and the management and administration of the June 5 commune council election, summaries of which will be forwarded to the legislature and the government.

The NEC also reviewed the comments made by the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, Vitit Muntarbhorn, regarding the June 5 commune council election and prepared a response to them which will be made through the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC).
