Nine Cambodians repatriated from Malaysia, Thailand

The Cambodian embassy in Malaysia helped repatriate four Cambodian migrant workers who were stranded there amid the outbreak of Covid-19, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation spokesman Koy Kuong.

“The embassy helped them return to Cambodia via Singapore Airline Flight SQ158 on September 17, arriving at Phnom Penh International Airport at 5:30pm,” Kuong said, adding they were poor and could not afford air tickets.

Before their repatriation, the embassy issued temporary travel documents and facilitated their return with Malaysian immigration officials. Embassy officials also escorted them to Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

In a separate case, Cambodian consulate officials in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province on September 17 helped repatriate five Cambodian migrant workers back home through Poipet International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province.
