Opposition senators visit jailed colleague

A contingent of opposition senators arrived at Prey Sar prison yesterday to visit their jailed colleague Senator Hong Sok Hour as well as 15 other Cambodia National Rescue Party members.

The group included Sam Rainsy Party senators Teav Vannol, Seng Mardi, You Seang Heng, Suon Vanleng and Yim Khun Khoeun.

Sok Hour was convicted this month of forgery and incitement over a Facebook post regarding the government’s management of its shared border with Vietnam. The other members were jailed for allegedly taking part in a 2014 protest that turned violent.

Vannol said the prisoners were faring well, though the party was unable to meet with jailed CNRP lawmaker Um Sam An, who was also imprisoned over comments regarding the border.
