Princess Norodom Buppha Devi has tendered her resignation from the Senate, where she has served since 2013 as one of two appointees from the National Assembly, which is set to meet today to discuss her replacement.
Senate Secretary-General Um Sarith said yesterday that the Senate had received a letter from Buppha Devi – daughter of the late King Norodom Sihanouk – stating that her resignation was effective as of the end of April.
Sarith would not comment in detail on her reason for leaving, beyond saying that he heard she “will receive a duty at another new place”.
Assembly spokesman Leng Peng Long said that he had also already received a resignation letter, and that the permanent committee of the assembly would discuss recruiting a new senator today.
“As I have heard unofficially, [the princess] will go to be a member of Constitutional Council,” he said.
Buppha Devi could not be reached for comment.
