Relatives of suspect in ice cooler murder released: police

Police on Monday released two people arrested in connection to the murder of a 29-year-old woman whose body was found locked inside an ice cooler near Preah Konlong Bridge in Kandal province.

Police arrested 31-year-old Soeu Sopheng, and his brother and wife in connection to the death of Yeoun Theany, Kandal Provincial Police Chief Eav Chamroeun said Monday. The brother and wife were released after questioning, he said.

Sopheng confessed to the crime and said he alone was involved, Chamroeun said. Police believe Sopheng killed Theany, from Kampong Siem district in Kampong Cham province, and stole her motorbike, phone and other items. Her body was found on Friday.

Police also arrested another man who bought the victim's motorbike from Sopheng, accusing him of receiving stolen property, but he was not involved in the murder, Chamroeun said.
