Search on as BMW driver flees scene of hit-and-run

Phnom Penh traffic police are searching for a man involved in a hit-and-run collision between his BMW and a Toyota Corolla that left two injured in Chamkarmon district in the wee hours of yesterday morning.

According to municipal traffic police chief Chev Hak, the accident took place at about 12:03am in Boeung Keng Kang I commune.

“The BMW hit the Corolla . . . When our expert authorities arrived, the owner of the BMW had already run and we are now investigating to find him,” Hak confirmed, adding that one passenger in the Corolla sustained serious injuries while the other minor.

In a video that has been making the rounds on social media, an unnamed man who had been driving behind the BMW said the vehicle was speeding before the collision.

“The woman and the man in the Corolla were hit by the BMW that drove very fast . . . After hitting the car, he walked out of his car aggressively but ran away because he knew he was wrong,” the man said, adding that a group chasing the man stopped when he produced a gun. Police could not verify the man’s account yesterday.
