Siem Reap airport staff end strike

About 150 workers at Siem Reap International Airport have temporarily ended a brief strike after a deal was made between the union and Cambodia Airport Management Services (CAMS) yesterday, both sides have confirmed.

“After the meeting [with CAMS at Siem Reap provincial hall yesterday], we decided to delay our strike, because we had agreed on some points with the company and authorities,” said Bun Sim, an activist with the Cambodia Tourism Industry Worker Trade Union, which led the walkout on Monday.

CAMS has agreed not to cut staff salaries for the 150 or so workers who went on strike, and the two parties will discuss outstanding demands that weren’t resolved, including claims that tasks were assigned beyond an employee’s job description.

Norinda Khek, communications director for Cambodia Airports – the firm that also runs Phnom Penh International Airport and is in charge of CAMS – said more talks are planned for the “multitasking scheme”.

The airport employs about 500 people
