The Siem Reap Provincial Administration will temporarily ban traffic in parts of Siem Reap town where public celebrations of Khmer New Year are scheduled to take place from April 12-16.
In a notice, the administration said it is working with the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) to organise the 10th anniversary of Angkor Sangkran.
“In order to celebrate Khmer New Year, we will stop traffic from April 12-16 at key locations such as in front of Angkor Wat temple, the Terrace of the Elephants, Street 60m, Damnak Park, Pub Street and along the Siem Reap River,” read the notice.
The following roads will be closed to traffic: Sivatha Street from the Tep Vong traffic light to the Zando clothing outlet; Pub Street and adjoining streets; Old Market; Sok San Street; Night Market Street; Pi Thnou Street; the streets adjacent to the northern part of the Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital; Pokambor Avenue on the west side of the Siem Reap River from the traffic light at Damnak Park; Wat Bo Bridge to Wat Damnak Bridge; all streets that approach the banks of the Siem Reap River; Achar Sva Street east of the river from the Department of Tourism bridge to Wat Reach Bo Bridge; and the Wat Damnak roundabout.
Traffic detours include the section of National Road 6 from the Koh Ker traffic light until the A7 Hotel, the section of road in front of Raffles Angkor Hotel and around Preah Reach Damnak Park, and some other sections according to the actual traffic situation.
To facilitate and avoid traffic congestion in Siem Reap town, the provincial administration and relevant authorities have organised parking lot areas at each point and at more than 20 other locations.
Parking will be available at “January 10, 1979 High School”; Volleyball Playground (behind Angkor Hospital for Children-AHC); Samdech Chea Sim Primary School; Stung Thmey Primary School; Angkor National Museum; Century Hotel; Wat Damnak; Wat Bo Primary School; Wat Po Sangka; Wat Preah Indakosa; Wat Preah Indakosey; Container Market; Wat Kesararam Primary School; the former provincial hall; Ta Prohm Hotel; former provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sport; Angkor High School; Khemarak Phoumin Street; and some other parking locations as indicated by the authorities according to the actual situation.
