Sihanouk provincial gov named

Former RCAF commander General Yun Min has been tapped as the next governor of Preah Sihanouk province.

He will replace Chhit Sokhon, who is set to retire at the end of the month, marking the third major provincial post to change hands in the past four months.

The Royal Decree promoting Min was issued yesterday.

Yun Min, a former regional military commander in Koh Kong province, was moved from the Ministry of Defense to the Ministry of Interior a year ago, said Interior Ministry Secretary of State Sak Setha.

“Yun Min has served as an Interior Ministry adviser for a year already and is studying at the Royal School of Administration in anticipation of taking the position of provincial governor,” he said.

Last week, the government announced that Sihanoukville city governor Chin Sarin – who at one time harboured ambitions for Sokhon’s job – was being replaced by 31-year-old Y Sokleng, deputy governor of the capital’s Prampi Makara district.

Three months earlier, former Phnom Penh deputy police chief Chuon Narin was named the province’s new top cop, a move seen as a response to growing crime concerns.
