As of May 24, the government had provided more than $1 billion in cash assistance to poor and vulnerable families as part of its fight against Covid-19 and relief efforts post-pandemic, benefitting more than 700,000 households.
From June 25, 2020 to May 24 of this year, the government has spent $1.056 billion.
The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation announced on May 24 that it would begin the second round of payments of the 13th round of cash transfers.
“Families who have already qualified for the first 35 payments will be able to withdraw their latest payments from their nearest Wing Bank counter without having to visit the commune hall again,” said the notice.
Those who have not been previously verified should visit their local commune hall.
The ministry also added that the expiry dates of ID Poor cards in Phnom Penh and the provinces of Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kampong Thom, Kratie, Stung Treng, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey would be extended by the Ministry of Planning, as it was still updating its data prior to the issuance of new cards.
Social welfare department director Chhour Sopanha said cash assistance payments are divided into three categories, with each household receiving a payment based on the size of their family. The average payments ranges from $50 to $100 per month.
“This provision is based on an income study, with the participation of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank," he said.
On May 22, Prime Minister Hun Sen also announced the implementation of a new policy framework for pregnant women, which would offer financial assistance to mothers, from their first month of pregnancy until their child reaches two years of age.
