Stung Treng training bolsters natural resource management

Thirty forest rangers have recently undergone an intensive two-day training programme in Stung Treng province with a focus on the management of protected areas and natural resources.

The Environmental Code and its provisions relating to natural resources were also a crucial part of the curriculum.

The July 27-28 sessions – held at the Stung Treng provincial environment department – were led by department director Sreng Chea Heng and presided over by Sou Sontra, deputy head of the Inspection and Law Enforcement department at the General Department of Natural Protected Areas under the Ministry of Environment.

The primary aim of the training was to enhance the capacity of the forest rangers. They had previously been trained under the Service and Network Resource Management project (SNRM). The expectation is that they will now disseminate their newfound knowledge about the Environmental Code and related natural resources provisions to their respective communities in protected areas.

This initiative is envisaged to foster sustainable management of natural resources within these communities.

Participants in the training were drawn from a diverse range of locations. These included the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary; Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary; Ramsar site; Virachey National Park; and Veun Sai-Siem Pang National Park.

The training was made possible thanks to the support from the Project for National and Sub-national Capacity Development for Sustainable Natural Resource Management (SNRM-JICA).

This project provides essential aid to initiatives aimed at sustainable management and conservation of precious natural resources.
