Thailand's ambassador to Cambodia has requested seven Thai nationals imprisoned in the Kingdom be allowed to complete their sentences in their native country.
The extradition request was raised in a meeting yesterday between Cambodian Minister of Justice Ang Vong Vathana and newly appointed Thai Ambassador Nuttavudh Photisaro.
Nuttavudh also asked the minister to expedite the case of another Thai national, imprisoned in Battambang for more than a year.
Vong Vathana said he had requested further details as the prisoners weren’t identified at the meeting,
“I would like [the ambassador] to give me names so that I can check it.
The prisoners might have filed appeals, so if the Appeal Court has not started the trials, we will speed [the cases] up,” the minister said.
“Then we can work it out, because we have [an extradition treaty] with Thailand.”
Vathana added that two Thai prisoners were recently extradited back home, while two pregnant Thai women were also released when the government pardoned female prisoners with children.
