Three men arrested for gang rape of teenager in Bavet

Three of four men suspected of gang-raping a teenage casino worker in a guesthouse in Svay Rieng province’s Bavet town were arrested yesterday, according to police.

Bavet commune police chief Mao Phinphirum said officers seized Siev Dara, 20, and 19-year-olds Sok Pha and Var Vanadara following a complaint from the victim’s family. Ngun Chenda, 20, remains at large, he said.

Phinphirum said the 15-year-old victim, a casino worker in the border town, accused the men of raping her after a night out on November 2. The officer said she knew her alleged attackers and had visited a club with them.

After leaving, the group rode around town before persuading the girl to accompany them to the Ly Sambath guesthouse, Phinphirum said. There, he said, the group allegedly took turns raping the teenager before leaving in the morning.

“Her family filed the complaint at Bavet commune police station and then authorities investigated and arrested three suspects,” he said.

The men will be sent to the provincial police headquarters for further questioning, he added.
